CURIOSITY KILLED ALL CATS The more I observe brilliant people, the more I notice that one distinguishing characteristic they have is insatiable curiosity. Intellectual curiosity ranks as one of the most productive and powerful qualities that any person has. It adds dimension, context, and passion. To embrace its uncertainty brings excitement, opportunity & pleasure to one’s life. In my opinion, the most important word in human history is ‘why’. But for many of us, as we get older, we lose our appetite for curiosity. In today’s technological society, the competitive load of information is enormous. It’s so overwhelming it often intimidates many perfectly capable people forcing them to conform to the lowest common social denominator. This is not a new problem…philosophers Leibniz and Diderot complained of information overload in the 17th and 18th centuries respectively. The “Renaissance Man,” or person with a working knowledge of every area of human endeavor, becomes inc...

The President said this on Thursday when he hosted North Eastern leaders at State House in Nairobi. He was talking about the details of the Supreme Court judgment that nullified his re-election in the August 8 race against NASA chief Raila Odinga. The judges dug deep into their determinations in lengthy sessions at the court on Wednesday. Uhuru said: "We have reversed everything in this country just by the decision of a few people.  Mimi nimesikia maajabu lakini  (I have heard wonders)...things that Kenyans refused when they voted for the new constitution ...ai...ai. " The Jubilee Party boss said what transpired at the top court has never been witnessed anywhere in the world. " Sisi kama taifa tumeonyeshwa maajabu ambayo hayajawahi onekana katika n...
PR versus Fake News. The just concluded elections in Kenya presented a unique learning opportunity for public relations practitioners. Social media played an important role in shaping perceptions but that had to come with a great cost. The presence of fake news overshadowed and undermined legitimate attempts to get constructive messages across the social media platforms. This puts PR practitioners in a tight spot. In every profession, but especially in PR, the desire to satisfy clients demands can prove to be a temptation to mute conscience and cut corners. PR professionals need to rise above this and remain faithful their responsibility to give the public objective communication. Fake news, which manipulates the truth to maintain control over public opinion has been here with us for a while now. Social media is a tool that can be used for good or bad. The menace is that an increased number of brands and some key personalities are ready to go against the codes of ethics to influe...
