Wavinya Ndeti says Government will deal ruthlessly with conveners of ‘kangaroo courts’ Transport Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti on Sunday fired warning shots at defilers and urged all state officers to ensure defilement cases are fast-tracked and processed with speed. Addressing the press after speaking to teenagers who attended a counseling session at Kinanie Catholic Church in Mavoko constituency, Ms Ndeti said the Government was greatly concerned with the surge in teenage pregnancies, a trend she said must be reversed at whatever cost. “As a Government we have taken the position that child defilement, incest and all manner of sexual offenses particularly directed to children must be dealt with firmly and decisively. US Democrats opened their nominating convention Monday with a show of unity behind Joe Biden and former first lady Michelle Obama delivering a scathing rebuke of Donald Trump as she urged voters to reject his politics of 'division.' "Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country," Barack Obama's wife said in a keynote speech on the first night of a convention that has shifted entirely online due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Whenever we look to this White House for some leadership, or consolation, or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy." The pre-taped remarks came as unprecedented criticism by a former first lady of a sitting US president, painting him as a man who lacks the competence, character or decency for the job. It was a potent message for voters who tuned in unsure of what to expect from a virtual convention that lacked the showstopping pizzazz and stagecraft of a live e...

Macharia: We won’t compromise health to resume flights to Dar Kenya has maintained that it will not compromise the health of its citizens by putting commercial interests first as it negotiates with Tanzania for national carrier Kenya Airways to resume flights to Dar es Salaam. Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia says   that he supports the Ministry of Health’s position that Covid-19 is a matter of life and death and that Kenyans must be protected. “We are not going to put commercial interests ahead of health matters. Commercial interests are subordinated to health risks,” Mr Macharia said, responding to questions on why Kenya Airways has not been granted permission to fly to Tanzania a week after the government announced it had struck a deal with Dar es Salaam for the resumption of flights. He said consultations are ongoing and the decisions will be communicated in due course. Mr Macharia said all the issues had been cleared but being a health-related matter, the concerned m...

In a statement on Saturday, CS Balala said she had been replaced with Najma Ismail. He explained that the ministry had just learned of her past remarks about the Nairobi National Park and could not associate itself with her. "... we have just seen what she tweeted in the past, that Nairobi National Park was useless. We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking," he said. "The integrity of the park is very important and the government is committed to saving it and any other protected area which is the habitat for our national heritage - wildlife."
